MI09

mi09doc.jpg

“MI09” stands for “Matériel d'interconnexion 2009”. This train has been created in order to help fighting the overcrowding on the Paris'regional line RER A. It will replace single decked trains of this line by 2014.

RER A handles 1.2 million passengers a day. The saturation of this line is a problem for years so president Nicolas Sarkozy said he would take care of it. Thus, the RATP (the company which runs this line) and the STIF (the company which mannage public transports in the Paris'region) funded together an order for sixty units (a train is composed of two units) which cost 10,5 million euros each.

Technically, a MI 09 is no more than an already existing MI 2n Altéo (RATP equivalent for the z22500) with different colors. Though it is improved with information screens inside and CCTV.
