The bb26000 are electric engines of SNCF. They're nicknamed “Sybic”, contraction of “Synchrone” (synchronous) and “bicourant” (dual power). They were delivered from 1988 to 1998.
bb26000 were created to pull both passenger trains at 200 km/h and heavy freight trains so these machines need a lot of power, they're using the same engine type as TGV Atlantique : the sunchronous engine. SNCF also wanted universal engines so they're dual power. The bb26000 are the most effective locos of SNCF.
In the order of 264 machines, the last 30 ones have been changed in bb36000. However these locos also have important problems as the lack of air conditioning, an insufficient airflow and too long reaction time of the brake with long convoys.
The bb26084 was removed in 2001 because of an accident to a sabotage near Chasse-sur-Rhône.
