Bidel cars are suburban closed-decker cars operated on the former Est's network from 1883 and then by SNCF until June 1954. They are dubbed “Bidel” as they looked like Bidel Circus'trailers, a well-known circus at that time.
The lower part of the cars was made in second class, accessible by four doors on each side while the decker was made in third class, accessible by two stairways at each end of the car. These cars were built massively (SNCF had 710 of them in 1938) though passengers never liked them because of their lack of comfort and safety while getting to the decker.
