The z20500 is an auto-engine of the SNCF very important in the Paris'region. They were built from 1988 to 1998. These machines take advantage of the last technical evolutions : asynchronous traction chain and possible coupling with other series of double decker auto-engines.
It is used with two types of cars : the “short” cars were delivered firstly and the “long” cars delivered secondly. z20500 are almost used on the regional lines RER C and D.
The double decker cars'trains V 2N are directly derived from z20500 cars, some z20500 have been renovated into z20900 getting phased asynchronous traction chain and cooled ventilation.
They're mostly used in four cars configuration or in double units of four cars and five cars trains.
